SUNDAY - Introduction

"When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile" - Anonymous

Of the days of the week, Sunday is the healthiest. Here is a reminder that we may be paying careless attention to the nature of this day for one reason or the other. Therefore, before I delve into the deep of my kopa* diary, I will share with you my thoughts about Sunday here.

Sunday is a combination of the sun with day (Sun+day), even from Greek as Sun’s day, and later became Sunday in the Gregorian calendar. This combination resonates with something more beautiful and thoughtful. The beauty is beyond church attendance and Muslim denominational gatherings on Sundays.

Come to think of it, the sun announces the day, even each day of the week. The sun wears a shining smile to brighten our day and encourages us to make hay while it shines. Its brilliance tells us to hit the iron while it is hot and hit the road during the day. This way will the strike fail us not or we stumble not in our walk.

More interestingly, the combination of the sun with day (Sun+day) has also come to mean rest from all labours. This is acknowledged by the Western labour law and other places that use the same. During this rest, there is personal, family and fun time. The rest that comes with Sunday also re-energises us for the labourious days ahead.

Anyone would agree that Sunday is beautiful, but for what reason depends on you. I believe Sunday is beautiful because of the choices that will allow it. This determines how it begins, continues and ends. Our choices simply define each of the three phases of its span. In those three phases, you could work, rest, have family time, have fun and even more, as you desire.

Take Sunday for life or time, what choices will you allow it? I mean you could alter a choice it makes for itself if displeasing. You can recreate a desirable choice for the day, unlike on weekdays. Simply put, our lives are what we call them. They are defined by the choices we make.

So the question is how are you defining yours by your choices? What are you calling yours by your choices, beautiful or ugly? Stressful or relaxing?

This part of the serial diary is to remind us to make beautiful and relaxing choices on Sundays. Let’s all make our Sunday’s worth relaxing, freeing our minds from all worries and tensions. Rest well while day the day lasts.

In the light of the above, I will tell you of some choices in the subsequent series of this diary. Therein, I will share how they created a story, whose beauty or ugliness depends on how you see or comprehend it. You can share your thought in the comment section of each series.

*Kopa - is a Nigerian-English term commonly used in referring to a Nigerian corps member
